IPTV on Kodi: PVR IPTV Simple Client Setup
Kodi turns your IPTV playlist into a full Live TV section with a TV guide, using one official add-on. It runs on Windows, Mac, Android, Firestick and even Xbox.
What You Need
- Kodi — free from the official kodi.tv website, Google Play, or the Microsoft Store (also on Xbox).
- PVR IPTV Simple Client — the official IPTV add-on from the Kodi repository. No third-party add-ons needed.
- Your M3U playlist link and, for the TV guide, your EPG (XMLTV) link — ask support if you don't have them.
Only install add-ons from the official Kodi repository. Unofficial "IPTV add-ons" from unknown sources are a common source of malware and broken streams.
Step 1: Install PVR IPTV Simple Client
- Open Kodi and click the gear icon (Settings).
- Go to Add-ons > Install from repository.
- Open PVR clients and select PVR IPTV Simple Client.
- Click Install, then Configure.
Step 2: Add Your Playlist and Guide
- In the add-on settings, open the General section.
- Set the M3U location to Remote path (Internet address).
- Paste your M3U playlist URL.
- Open the EPG section, set the location to remote path and paste your XMLTV URL.
- Click OK, make sure the add-on is enabled, then restart Kodi.
After the restart, TV appears in Kodi's main menu with your channels, groups and the guide. The first load can take a minute on a large playlist.
Tips for a Better Kodi Live TV
Changes need a refresh
Kodi stores the channel list. If channels change, re-open the add-on settings or restart Kodi to reload the playlist.
Use channel groups
The playlist's categories become channel groups in Kodi. Pick a group in the TV menu instead of scrolling through every channel.
Guide at the wrong time?
The add-on has an EPG time-shift option in its EPG settings. More in EPG and TV guide fixes.
Stutter on live channels
Use a wired connection where possible and follow the buffering guide.
Kodi on Xbox
Kodi is one of the few ways to watch IPTV on an Xbox: install it from the Microsoft Store on the console, then follow the same two steps above. See the full Xbox and PlayStation guide.
Kodi or a Dedicated IPTV App?
Kodi is great if you already use it for your own media. If you only want live TV and on-demand titles, a dedicated player is simpler to set up and log in with Xtream Codes directly: TiviMate on Android TV or IPTV Smarters Pro almost everywhere. See all IPTV apps.
