IPTV M3U Playlist: What It Is and How to Add It to Any App
An M3U playlist is one web address that holds your whole channel list. Paste it into an IPTV app and every channel appears. This guide explains how it differs from an Xtream Codes login, and how to add it to the most popular apps.
M3U Link or Xtream Codes?
Your activation message usually contains both. They open the same channels in two different ways:

Use Xtream Codes whenever your app offers it — it is faster and fills the guide by itself. Use the M3U link for players that only accept a playlist, such as VLC, Kodi and media servers.
What an M3U Link Looks Like
Most IPTV playlist links follow this pattern (the values here are placeholders):
http://server-address:8080/get.php?username=YOURNAME&password=YOURPASS&type=m3u_plus&output=ts
- server-address:8080 — the provider's server and port.
- username / password — your own login, the same as in Xtream Codes.
- type=m3u_plus — includes channel logos and groups.
- output=ts — the stream format; some players work better with
m3u8.
Because the link contains your password, treat it like one: do not post it in forums or share it. A shared link gets an account blocked, since one subscription plays on one device at a time.
How to Add Your M3U Playlist to Each App
IPTV Smarters Pro
- Open the app and choose Load Your Playlist or File/URL.
- Enter any name, choose M3U URL and paste your link.

TiviMate
- Choose Add playlist, then M3U playlist and Enter URL.
- Paste the M3U link and tap Next.

VLC
- Go to Media > Open Network Stream (Mac: File > Open Network).

Kodi
- Install PVR IPTV Simple Client from the official Kodi repository.
- In its settings, set the M3U location to Remote path (Internet address) and paste the link.

Plex, Emby and Jellyfin
Emby and Jellyfin accept the link as an M3U Tuner. Plex needs a small tuner bridge in between. The steps for all three are in IPTV on Plex, Emby and Jellyfin.
M3U or M3U8?
Both are playlist files. .m3u8 is simply an M3U saved in UTF-8, so channel names in other alphabets display correctly. You will also see m3u8 on single streams, because many live streams use the HLS format, whose playlists end in .m3u8. If a player has trouble with one version of your link, ask support for the other.
Playlist Not Loading?
- Copy, don't type. One wrong character breaks the whole link.
- Keep http or https exactly as sent — changing it often stops the playlist.
- Turn off your VPN and try again.
- Give it time. Large playlists take a minute to load on a Firestick.
- Try Xtream Codes if the app offers it.
